Statement on President Obama’s Supreme Court Nomination

Tallahassee–Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama’s nomination of federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor to serve on the United States Supreme Court.
“Supreme Court nominations are one of the most important decisions facing a President of the United States. Supreme Court justices can wield influence on the high court for more than a generation and should be thoroughly vetted by both the Executive and Legislative Branches.
We look forward to a complete review of Judge Sotomayor’s record and her personal convictions, as they relate to the judicial philosophy she would employ as a justice on the United States Supreme Court.
For today, we congratulate Judge Sotomayor on this accomplishment and look forward to the coming weeks as members of the United States Senate face the daunting task of carefully analyzing Judge Sotomayor’s qualifications and experience as well as her extensive writings and opinions.
